I study how states govern and societies hold together. How they are, and how they ought to be.
Political theory is where I start. Economics gives me the tools: the models, the econometric methods to test an idea, a way of seeing. Most days I read, or run the numbers behind what I read. The rest of my time goes to open source and the Linux ecosystem I live in and contribute to, a camera, and whatever I want to learn next.
Reading
Governance and social order, from Hobbes and Rawls to the question of what a just political order would even look like.
Researching
Taking those questions to the data with R, Stata, and Python, and staying honest about what the numbers will and will not say.
Building
Open-source tools and a self-hosted agent. I live in the Linux ecosystem, tinker with Arch, and give back where I can.
Off the clock
A camera, music, and games I lose hours to, grand strategy and RPGs alike. Always looking for the small ordinary beauty everyday life keeps handing over.
